We follow a clear breeding policy—carriers are paired only with DM-clear mates—and back our program with a written health & temperament guarantee. Based in Colorado, we offer stud service to approved females across the United States.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Hip, ZW score?

The ZW score is a number used by German Shepherd breeders in Germany (the SV system) to measure the genetic risk of hip dysplasia.

  • 100 is considered the breed average.
  • 90–99 = Very Good hips.
  • 80–89 = Excellent hips.
  • 70–79 = Supreme hips (outstanding/elite).
  • Lower than 70 = Exceptionally rare, supreme elite level.
  • Higher than 100 means the dog has a higher risk than average.
What is a Working Line (WL) German Shepherd?
  • Breeding goal: maximum performance and utility (police, sport, SAR).
  • Structure: more moderate angulation and topline; built for endurance and agility.
  • Typical look: sable, bi-color, solid black are common; pigment varies.
  • Drives/temperament: higher prey/defense/food drives, intense work focus; can be more demanding to live with.
  • Shows: may be shown, but conformation rankings are not the priority.
What is a Working Show Line (WSL) German Shepherd?
  • Breeding goal: meet work requirements and excel in conformation (breed standard & movement).
  • Structure: more pronounced fore/hind angulation, long croup, flowing trot; the classic show outline.
  • Typical look: rich black-and-red saddle, strong head, dark mask.
  • Drives/temperament: still real working ability, generally a touch more “biddable/polished” for family life than many WL individuals (kennel-dependent).
  • Shows: carry show rankings (e.g., VA, V, SG at Sieger shows) in addition to working titles.
What do both types have in common?
  • Must earn working titles (IGP/IPO/SchH, FH, HGH) and pass a breed survey (Körung) with health clearances (hips/elbows, etc.).
  • Have stable nerves and trainability—just selected for different priorities.
How should I choose?
  • Primarily sport/working job, very high drive desired? Consider WL.
  • Family/companion with real work ability and classic show look? Consider WSL.
  • Always judge the individual dog and kennel, not just the label.
Notes — U.S. “Working Line” reality
  • Marketing vs. merit: Many U.S. “working line” litters are marketed off parents’/grandparents’ old titles, while the current breeding dogs have no working titles or Körung.
  • Verify current credentials: IGP titles (with scores & dates), Körung (KKL), official trial results, and health certifications (hips/elbows).
  • Ask for proof: Scorebook pages, links to official results, judge names with trial dates, or work videos.
  • Red flags: Vague “import lines” claims, “parents are titled” without documents, or “titles planned” while breeding is already underway.
