Protection Dog Training FAQs
Are these dogs safe with children?
Yes. A correctly selected and professionally trained protection German Shepherd is calm, stable and reliable around children,
including toddlers, when handled properly. Our program is designed so your dog can live safely inside the home while providing
real protection when needed.
We select dogs with strong nerves, clear temperament and natural neutrality around children. No dog enters protection work unless
they demonstrate emotional stability, confidence and calm behavior in family environments.
- Protection behaviors are always command-based — never random or instinctive
- Dogs are trained to relax around normal family activity, movement and noise
- Stable temperament and strong obedience are required before any protection work
- Clear rules, boundaries and leadership ensure safe handling around kids
- Our focus is a loving family companion with dependable protection capability
When properly trained and maintained, a Gunbil protection dog is both a trustworthy family member and a capable protector you can rely on in
genuine situations.
Will protection training make my dog aggressive?
No. True protection training does not create aggression. Aggression comes from fear, insecurity or poor genetics — none of
which are used in our program. A properly selected German Shepherd is confident, stable and clear-headed, and protection
training simply teaches them when and how to respond under your command.
Our approach emphasizes calm confidence, not chaos. Every behavior is controlled, structured and rooted in obedience and
handler leadership. When the dog is not under command, they remain a relaxed, social, predictable family companion.
- Protection is a trained skill — not an emotional reaction
- Dogs learn exactly when to respond, and when to turn off
- No fear, no random aggression, no uncontrolled behavior
- Built on strong nerves, stability and clear judgment
- Obedience and clarity always come before protection work
The best protection dogs are not “angry” dogs — they are balanced, intelligent, emotionally stable German Shepherds trained
to respond appropriately when a real threat is present.
Do you only train German Shepherds?
Yes. We work exclusively with German Shepherds — no exceptions. Protection work requires predictable genetics, strong nerves,
stable temperament and the ability to handle pressure with clarity and control. The German Shepherd is one of the few breeds
consistently capable of meeting these standards.
As breeder–trainers with over 26 years of experience, we know our bloodlines intimately: the temperament, drive balance, nerve
strength, intelligence and family suitability behind every dog we train. This depth of knowledge allows us to produce consistent,
safe and reliable results.
- Many breeds are not suitable for protection work
- We do not risk unknown genetics or unstable temperaments
- Safety for your family and our trainers is non-negotiable
- Working within one breed ensures quality and predictability
- German Shepherds offer unmatched versatility and intelligence
By specializing in German Shepherds only, we maintain the highest standards of safety, consistency and performance in every dog
we train.
How do I know which level is right for my family?
We begin with a detailed consultation focused on your family’s lifestyle, home environment, daily routines and overall
risk level. Every household is different, and the right protection level depends on your expectations, experience with
German Shepherds, comfort handling a trained dog, and the specific situations you want your dog prepared for.
During this conversation, we evaluate the factors that matter most:
- How much deterrence or real protection you need
- The size and layout of your property
- Whether you travel frequently or live in a higher-risk area
- The presence of children, guests or other pets
- Your prior handling experience (none required — we guide you fully)
Based on this information, we recommend the level that aligns with your needs and comfort as a handler. Most families begin with
Level 1 Family Protection, which provides a stable, social companion with genuine deterrence and controlled protection
behaviors — without overwhelming the home environment.
Families requiring additional capability can progress to higher levels as needed, always at a pace appropriate for both the dog
and your household. Our goal is the perfect balance of safety, obedience and real-world protection tailored to your family.
Do you provide handler training for the owner?
Yes — handler training is a required part of every protection dog we place. A protection dog is only as effective as the
handler behind it, so we teach you how to lead, communicate and maintain all commands with confidence.
Our owner-training includes:
- Proper leash handling and control techniques
- How to activate and deactivate protection behaviors safely
- Reading body language and understanding pressure levels
- Maintaining obedience, structure and consistency in the home
- Rules for children, guests and normal family environments
- Real-world reinforcement to ensure your dog stays reliable
