Frequently Asked Questions About Our Current & Upcoming German Shepherd Litters

What is the Hip, ZW score?

The ZW score is a number used by German Shepherd breeders in Germany (the SV system) to measure the genetic risk of hip dysplasia.

  • 100 is considered the breed average.
  • 90–99 = Very Good hips.
  • 80–89 = Excellent hips.
  • 70–79 = Supreme hips (outstanding/elite).
  • Lower than 70 = Exceptionally rare, supreme elite level.
  • Higher than 100 means the dog has a higher risk than average.
Our puppies are placed with a five-year health and temperament guarantee.

We do not rely on vague or undefined promises. Every puppy from Gunbil German Shepherds is placed with a written five-year health and temperament guarantee that includes clear terms and accountability. This guarantee reflects the documented health testing, selection, and standards behind our breeding program and is designed to protect both the puppy and the family long after placement.

Shop confidently — your reservation deposit or purchase is 100% refundable prior to pickup.

A reservation secures a puppy from a selected litter and guarantees priority selection. All deposits and purchases are fully refundable for any reason prior to the transfer of possession. No refunds are available once the puppy or dog has been placed with the buyer.

We do not place puppies with every interested buyer.

Gunbil German Shepherds places puppies based on suitability, not availability. We are committed to responsibly matching each puppy with an appropriate home, and our responsibility does not end at placement. Accordingly, we reserve the right to decline any placement if, in our reasonable judgment, a puppy or prospective household is not an appropriate match or if placement would not be in the best interest of the puppy.

What is included with my German Shepherd puppy?

Your puppy includes vaccinations, deworming, microchip identification, a five-year health and temperament guarantee, complete records, and lifetime breeder support — everything you need for confidence and peace of mind.

When do your German Shepherd puppies go to their new homes?

Our puppies join their new families at 10 weeks of age, not 8 weeks. This additional time allows for continued development, socialization, and a smoother transition into their new homes. It also allows us to properly evaluate each puppy’s temperament, character, and personality, including assessment of natural drives, so each puppy can be thoughtfully matched to the right home.

Are the parents health tested?

Yes. Each sire and dam is certified for hips and elbows, DNA verified, screened for degenerative myelopathy (DM), and carefully evaluated for health and temperament before being included in a planned breeding.

Do you offer nationwide delivery?

Yes. We offer safe, nationwide, door-to-door delivery through trusted partners. Families are also welcome to pick up in person in Larkspur, Colorado, or arrange delivery to major cities across the United States.

Are your German Shepherd puppies considered high quality?

Families choose Gunbil German Shepherds because they are looking for a responsible breeder focused on health, structure, temperament, and proven bloodlines. Our puppies are bred to develop into stable, confident adult companions.

Are puppies AKC eligible?

Yes. All litters are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and include the paperwork required for registration.

Is “German Shepard” the same as “German Shepherd”?

Yes. “German Shepherd” is the correct spelling. However, many people search using variations such as “German Shepard.” You’re in the right place.
